A Young Indiana Jones with a splash of Percy Jackson.
Twelve-year-old Devin Reed is your average kid from Manhattan. That is until he inherits a 400 year old book and amulet necklace from his recently deceased grandfather. With book and amulet now in his possession, Devin discovers that he is the protector of a centuries old secret hidden in a cave deep beneath Central Park. It's there that he awakes a world he never knew existed. And it's there that he learns of his quest to save a sacred scroll from destruction. In the end, Devin becomes an unlikely hero as he battles evil spirits and a ruthless bloodline destined to destroy the scroll.
Basically, forget everything you learned in school about the purchase of Manhattan. Because Devin’s adventurous and magical quest will change the history of the Island forever, and along the way reacquaint you with some of this country’s most famous historical figures.
'BOOK ONE' of the Devin Reed fantasy/adventure series.

Read information about the authorYou could say I've been in the entertainment business my whole life. Actually, it would be more accurate to say that I was in the entertainment industry before I even took my first breath. My mother was a Radio City Music Hall Rockette, which meant I was bouncing around in her stomach for at least one Christmas Show.
My father was a stagehand at Avery Fisher Hall in Manhattan. When I was a kid I would take the bus up from the Jersey Shore and visit him all the time. I remember lying down on a small couch behind the stage listening to the performers rehearse as I slowly fell asleep. Not every kid could say that they feel asleep to the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, or Pavarotti, or all the other countless entertainers I had the pleasure of nodding off to...sorry guys...nothing personal, I was just a kid.
My first job out of college was working as a production assistant on the news show: Inside Edition. A year later, I relocated to Orlando, Florida. There's nothing like living around the corner from Universal Studios and Disney. Two years later I drove across the country to Hollywood, California were I worked on several television shows including the entertainment news show - Extra.
After Hollywood, I returned back to the east coast, moved into Manhattan, and started working as a local one stagehand. I would follow in the footsteps of my great-grandfather, grandfather and father. I've had the pleasure of working as a soundman on many broadway shows including: Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues, Chicago, and countless others.
My first attempt at writing was a screenplay. A Tale of Manhattan was originally a screenplay, until one day I decided to test the literary waters and create my first middle grade fantasy/ adventure novel. I've always been fascinated with anything dealing with fantasy, adventure, and history. I guess that's why I loved reading Tolkien, Lewis, and Verne.
I owe a great deal to my family who have supported me from day one on my writing odyssey. Especially my wife and two boys who never get sick of my stories, or hearing me say: "What do you think of this?" My dog Max even lends his support by lying at my side as I write late into the night.
On a personal note: I've been in one tornado, three hurricanes, one fire, one flood, one earthquake (too many), two blackouts (way too many) ...and ten days without power during Hurricane Sandy. So I figured if I've been through all those things in my life so far, then there was certainly nothing that would stand in-between me and my passion for writing.
